Beat Clap

A rhythm game for practicing English syllables. Clap into your microphone, right on the beat.

  • Practise: English pronunciation
  • For all ages
  • English · 日本語
  • Version 0.4.0
  • GPL-3.0

Clap once for every syllable

Each word is split into syllables (RO-BOT, U-NI-VER-SI-TY), and each syllable is a node on a rail scrolling at 100 BPM. The game says the whole word once, then speaks it again one syllable per beat. Clap along as each node crosses the hit ring!

Five stages, five songs

#StageWordsMusic
1Sunny Start1–2 syllablesPluck pop
2Bubble Pop2–3 syllablesChiptune with arpeggios
3Midnight Funk3 syllablesSlap bass, clav and organ
4Island Breeze3–4 syllablesTropical marimba
5Neon Finale4–5 syllablesSynthwave

Match 60% of a stage’s syllables to clear it and move on to the next.

What you will learn

  • Syllables: hear and feel how English words break apart.
  • Syllable stress: the stressed syllable is shown in capitals on a big gold node (ba-NA-na), and the voice says it louder.
  • Stress mode: an optional challenge where you clap loud on the big node and soft on the small ones.
  • Word cards: a picture, a meaning and an example sentence for each word you complete. In Japanese mode these come with Japanese too.

English and 日本語

The interface switches between English and Japanese at any time by pressing L. The words to clap always stay in English.

No microphone? No problem

If no mic is available, press Space or tap the screen to clap. Run the Mic check on your first go so the game can tune itself to your room.
